Let’s take a behind the scenes look at this stunning before & after transformation of my client’s home exterior! I absolutely LOVE doing paint color consultations, especially on exteriors, because there’s truly no better way to update your home than with a couple cans of paint.

So much better right?? This new paint color scheme feels fresh and current without looking like stark white primer (which is what we’re seeing in all the neighborhoods right now). I can almost guarantee you have a home on your street that has a black and white color palette but something just feels off. It’s probably because the white is WAY too bright.
The 3 keys to choosing the right exterior color for your home are to A. hire a paint color consultant and B. choose colors that are 2-3x deeper than you’d expect to go. C. don’t choose an actual white paint for your main body color if you want the look of white.
In order to get the look and feel of a white paint color, I had to evaluate the stone, pavers and roof for inspiration as these elements were not changing. Most cultured stone has violet grey, taupe and orange beige undertones. The pavers and roof are taupe which left me with about 1 or 2 really good options for the body color.

Benjamin Moore “Cedar Key” is a beautiful, light taupe color. It has pinky-taupe and violet grey undertones that coordinate with the roof, exterior stone and pavers.
For the trim, I choose an off white (“Simply White” Benjamin Moore) that looks fresh and clean on the exterior.
In most cases, I recommend painting a front-facing garage the same color as the body of the exterior. This client wanted more drama on their facade so they chose to paint the garage black.

Here is a rendering (thanks ChatGPT!) of the garage painted the same color as the main body. In my humble opinion, this looks more cohesive and really lets the front door become the focal point rather than the garage. I’d love to know in the comments if you agree!
